It is done. All thanks to Jesus! Since many are curious, here’s a quick recap of the race:
It was painful on levels I didn’t know I could endure.
Swim
Never have I ever:
- Raced in such perfect water
- Finished in 1:17!
- Effectively drafted off a teammate (thanks Radak!)
I give 10/10. Highly recommend
Bike
Never have I ever:
- Contemplated quitting before mile 40
- Pushed my bike up a hill. Yup, I was that girl. Got a bloody nose from the heat and was dizzy, so I had to re-center before the dangerous downhill
- Seen so much carnage of athletes needing medical attention
I give 0/10: Do not recommend
Run
Never have I ever:
- Seen an entire field run/walk a race
- Shuffled 26.2 miles as the wrath of Hades was being unleashed
- Seen the hospitality of a city literally save a race. The DNF % would have been 10x without the supplemental stations of water/ice/hose-downs/and whiskey
- Lost my colon so much without having eaten any food. (TMI?) I blame my new friend Lionel for that
I give 2.5/10. Only ranks because of the incredible love from the locals
Blessed beyond measure to have a selfless super-Sherpa and family who support me through highly-questionable hobby choices.
Exceptionally thankful to have a second family with my FTC team, some patient and effective coaching, and some sweet digs for the week (complete with lake doggo).
Peace out IMCDA. I won’t be racing you again!
